Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Give thanks to the Lord our God and King
His love endures forever
For He is good, He is above all things
His love endures forever

Sing praise, sing praise

With a mighty hand and outstretched arm
His love endures forever
For the life that's been reborn
His love endures forever

Sing praise, sing praise

Forever God is faithful
Forever God is with us
Forever

From the rising to the setting sun
His love endures forever
By the grace of God we will carry on
His love endures forever

Sing praise, sing praise

TID-bits

  • It’s amazing the ways that time moves.  Take a span of four years for instance.
  • If you think about 4 years as it relates to your car loan, then it feels like forever.
  • If you think of it in terms of your kid in high school, then it zips by.
  • It’s the same with our challenges.  We think of them in the here and now, and they seem to last forever.
  • God sees the bigger picture, though, and He sees them zip by.
  • Our perspective needs to be His.  Since He sees a timeline that stretches into forever, it truly does make whatever we’re going through momentary.

  • Have you ever really given thought to the word “endure?”
  • The dictionary has two definitions for it.  One is to “suffer patiently.”  The other is to “remain in existence.”
  • I remember a time when I was in the hospital, and my condition gave me a vast amount of pain.
  • This is one of the songs I listened to.
  • This song helped me to suffer patiently.  It reminded me of the pain that Jesus endured on the cross because of His love.
  • The words “by the grace of God we can carry on” also helped me through the struggle.
  • Don’t let the word “endure” slip by you in this (that) song.  Latch on to it, meditate on it, and maybe give these lyrics to someone who is suffering.

  • Sometimes life seems to stall and you feel like you’re going nowhere.
  • And in our own minds it feels like the pause is taking FOREVER!!
  • Cheer up, there were plenty of instances of that happening in the Bible, here’s a few:
    • It took the Israelites 40 years to enter the Promised land.
    • Jacob had to wait 14 years before he could marry his true love.
    • Paul had to endure numerous hardships, including prison and a shipwreck, before he finally made it to Rome.
  • If your desires seem to be taking forever to materialize, just remember that God hasn’t forgotten you.
  • He is good and He is above all things, working behind the scenes to work it out.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about a time when you had to endure, like through an illness or a wilderness experience.  Maybe some uncertainty.  How did God show Himself faithful to you?

Have you ever found that giving total praise to God - putting Him first in everything, also lifts your spirits?  Point that out to the listener and invite them to “sing praise.”

Find one thing about God that you can give thanks for, then remind the listeners that this song will help them add to that “thankfulness” list…
