Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Why in the world did I think I could
Only get to know you when my life was good?
When everything just falls in place
The easiest thing is to give you praise
Now it all seems upside down

'Cause my whole world is caving in
But I feel you now more than I did then
How can I come to the end of me
But somehow still have all I need?
God I want to know you more
Maybe this is how it starts
I find you when I fall apart

Blessed are the ones who understand
They've got nothing to bring but empty hands
Nothing to hide and nothing to prove
Our heartbreak brings us back to you
And it all seems upside down

'Cause my whole world is caving in
But I feel you now more than I did then
How can I come to the end of me
But somehow still have all I need?
God I want to know you more
Maybe this is how it starts
I find you when I fall apart

I don't know how long this will last
I'm praying for the pain to pass
But maybe this is the best thing that has ever happened to me

'Cause my whole world is caving in
But I feel you now more than I did then
How can I come to the end of me
But somehow still have all I need?
God I want to know you more
Maybe this is how it starts
I find you when--
You will find me when--
I fall apart

TID-bits

This is an excerpt from the book, "The Circle Maker" by Mark Batterson:

On October 14, 1947 Chuck Yeager was piloting the X-1 Experimental aircraft as it was released from under the fuselage of a B29 Bomber.  Rocket engines ignited on the X-1 as it climbed from 25,000 feet to 42,000.  As the plane approached Mach 1 it began to shake violently.  At Mach .965 the speed indicator went haywire.  At Mach .995 the g forces blurred Yeager's vision and turned his stomach.

Then, just as it seemed as if the plane would disintegrate, there was a loud sonic boom followed by an almost instantaneous and eerie silence. As the plane crossed the sound barrier, the air pressure shifted from the front to the back.  What was thought by science to be unbreakable had been broken.

Just like the sound barrier, there is a faith barrier.  And breaking the faith barrier in the spiritual realm is much like breaking the sound barrier in the physical realm.  If you want to experience a supernatural breakthrough, you have to pray through.  But as you get closer to the breakthrough, if often feels like you're about to lose control, about to  fall apart.  That is when you have to press in and pray through.  If you allow them to, your disappointments will create drag.  If you allow them to, your doubts will nosedive your dreams.  But if you pray through, God will come through and you'll experience a supernatural breakthrough.

-Mark Batterson "The Circle Maker"  pp. 163-164

The late actor, Buddy Ebsen, (a.k.a. Jed Clampett on the Beverly Hillbillies) once said “I had a mother who taught me there is no such thing as failure.   It is just a temporary postponement of success.”

Failure is one of those oxymorons.   We think it’s a bad thing, but in reality it usually ends up as a builder and a leader - It builds your experience base, and it leads to other,  greater   things.

So encourage listeners who have tried, and failed, that they are not less worthy.  Instead they have been brought to the point where they can now be poised for success.   You can also remind them that the resilience they’ve gained through the failure, can be something they share with others to ultimately bring them hope.

  • For seeds to be released the pod that holds them must be broken.
  • It’s often the same way for us.
  • God can take what breaks you, and use it to help you grow.

  • The alternator went out on my car
  • (For those who don’t know what an alternator does, it keeps your battery charged).
  • It made me think of this song.   It’s because this song sings about coming to the end “of me” - kind of like a battery running out of it’s charge.
  • God is like an alternator.   When I come to the end of me, He still gives me all I need - He gives me the recharge.
  • I just have to remain connected to Him.

----------------------------------------

  • I had a friend who had his relationship with his girlfriend fall apart.
  • And it’s the desire of his heart that the relationship gets back together.
  • Finally he asked, “If the desires of our hearts are NOT God’s will, do our prayers really matter? Because  it’s not gonna change anything."
  • I think this (that) song answers the question.
  • What changes is that we end up knowing God’s ultimate love more.

  • There comes a time when:
  • The doctor, or the boss, or your spouse, or your kids may give you bad news.
  • Or it may come from any or all of the above.
  • We never want it to happen, but it can have a purpose in our lives.
  • Here’s a song to take to heart for when your time of bad news comes...

----------------------------------------

  • My son (OR>> My Friend’s son) would always get upset whenever the Lego model he was working on would accidentally fall apart.
  • We’d always tell him that it was a chance to remake it better and stronger.
  • That’s what happens when we fall apart too.
  • God has the chance to remake us better and stronger.

  • Putting your life in the hands of Jesus doesn’t mean that you will automatically get your life all together.
  • It means you’ll have it more together when things fall apart.

    Scripture References

Josh Wilson mentions this verse in the video at the top of the TID-Bits section for this page.   You can share it and remind your listeners that God is the glue that holds us together as we’re falling apart:

    Colossians 1:17

He is before all things,   and in him all things hold together.

    ----------------------------------------

    Psalm 10:17

You hear, O Lord, the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,

    ----------------------------------------

    2 Thessalonians 2:16

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope, 17 encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

    ----------------------------------------

Job is the perfect person to talk about regarding this song.   No one’s life fell apart more than his.   The following verses are to give hope to those who’s lives are crashing around them:

    Job 42:12, 16 -17

The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the first. He had fourteen thousand sheep, six thousand camels, a thousand yoke of oxen and a thousand donkeys.

After this, Job lived a hundred and forty years; he saw his children and their children to the fourth generation.   And so he died, old and full of years.

    Your Own Experiences

If you’re hurting, just be honest about it with your listener.   You don’t have to go into details, you just need to talk about how God is keeping you going.

    ----------------------------------------

Talk about losing a girlfriend or boyfriend in the past, and how you thought life was over when it really wasn’t.

    ----------------------------------------

Talk about watching the TV show “Hoarders” and how we often have to go through a mess to see how much you need to be cleaned up.

    ----------------------------------------

Talk about a failure you had in life, and how it led to bigger and better things.
