Taking It Deeper

I tend to be busier than I should be
I tend to think that time is going to wait for me
Sometimes I forget and take for granted
That it’s a beautiful life we live
I don’t want to miss the moments like this
This is a beautiful life You give
You’re the reason for every good thing, every heartbeat
Every day we get to breathe
You’re the reason for anything that lasts, every second chance
Every laugh
Life is so sweet
You’re the reason for every good thing
There will be days that give me more than I can take
But I know that You always make beauty from my heartache
Don’t want to forget or take for granted
That it’s a beautiful life we live
I’m not going to miss the moments like this
This is a beautiful life You give
It’s our family, it’s our friends
It’s the feeling that I get when I see my children smile
You’re the reason for this life, everything we love
It’s You alive in us
You’re alive in us
You are here in every moment, and I know that You’re every good thing
You are here in every moment, and I know that You’re the reason for
You are every good thing.

  • Mark Batterson, Pastor of National Community Church in Washington, D.C. has this to say in his book "The Circle Maker:"
  • There is nothing God wants to do more than prove His power by keeping His promises. But we doubt God because we doubt ourselves.  We don't ask God to extend His hand because we don't know His heart.  Psalm 84:11 captures the heart of the heavenly Father:  "No good thing does he withhold from those who walk uprightly."
  • God is not holding out or holding back.  It's not in His nature to withhold any good thing from us.  He most certainly won't bless disobedience, but He most certainly will bless obedience.  If you take God at His word, you'll make the joyful discovery that God wants to bless you far more than you want to be blessed.  And His capacity to give is far greater than your capacity to receive.

  • Remember the saying “you don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone?”
  • This (That) is a song that reminds you to focus on those things before they ever have a chance to go away.

  • Often when I hear a little child laugh, I'll think of a part of this (that) song.
  • It's a part that goes by real fast,  it says "every laugh (WHOOO) life is so sweet."
  • To me, it just describes a little kids laugh, because it's energetic like the "Whooo" and it definitely is sweet."
  • Do you need to let out a whoo, or have a good laugh today?
  • They are both good things that come from God.

  • The verses of this (that) song remind me of how much time I spend dealing with the stuff of my life.   Verse 1 starts off with “I tend to be busier than I should be”   Verse 2 begins with “There will be days that give me more than I can take.”
  • That’s why I’m thankful that this song reminds me that I need to be grateful for the relationships I have, because I’ll often forsake them in favor of all the piddly stuff.
  • And the main relationship it reminds me of is the one I have with God.
  • It’s the one that gives meaning to all the rest.

  • Our friends and family don’t just need to hear how much we appreciate them.
  • They need to see it too.
  • When this (that) song talks about “not going to miss the moments like this” and “it’s is a beautiful life You give,”
  • It reminds me that I need to often stop focusing on work, and start focusing on my relationships.

  • Pastor Andy Stanley wrote a book called “When Work and Family Collide.”
  • In it he talks about how anyone can replace you in your job.
  • But no one can take your place as the spouse or parent you’re called to be.
  • So sometimes you have to choose to cheat your time on those things you think are important to spend time with the things that are really important.
  • I always think about where I’m choosing to spend my time when I hear this (that) song.

  • Have you ever left a party and the host asks if you’ll “take home some of this cake?” and you’re like “oh no, I couldn’t - that’s your cake - you enjoy it.”
  • That makes me think of this (that) song:
  • See, God gives us a life that is full of sweet things -
  • Yet we often turn them down.
  • This (That) song reminds you and me that we should express our gratitude for the blessings that God has given us.
  • We should take the cake.

    Scripture References

For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does he withhold from those whose walk is blameless.

    James 1:17

Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.

    Romans 8:28

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about a time you brought home flowers “just because.”   This song is an example of that.   It reminds us to express love to God or others “just because” of the blessing they are to us.

Here’s something you can do that expresses the thought of this song:   Surprise your child by taking lunch to them at school.   Tell them it’s because you were thinking about them, and just wanted to tell them you love them.

Remind the listener that this song has a “whoo” in the middle of it.   Before it comes on ask them what God has given them that they would give a “whoop” about.
