Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
Wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord
Strength will rise as we wait upon the Lord
Wait upon the Lord
We will wait upon the Lord

Our God You reign forever
Our Hope our strong Deliverer

You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
You do not faint You won't grow weary
You're the defender of the weak
You comfort those in need
You lift us up on wings like eagles

You are the everlasting God
The everlasting God
The everlasting God
The everlasting

TID-bits

  •  An old preacher once said:   “Never put a comma where God puts a period, and never put a period where God puts a comma.”
  • We tend to want to use periods a lot - we pray and then we stop, or give up.
  • But God wants us to keep praying.   He wants us to put commas on our prayers - to keep praying.   Even if it all seems hopeless.
  • That builds our faith.   When we say “I will hold on to Him no matter what,” it makes us stronger.
  • That what it means when it says “strength will rise as we wait on the Lord.”

  • Train engineers have a button they have to push every few minutes.
  • If it doesn’t get pushed, an alarm sounds and the train applies it’s emergency brakes.
  • It’s to maintain safety in case the engineer falls asleep.
  • God wants to be like that engineer button for us - a place we go to keep going.
  • But He also designed us to rest.
  • If you feel like you need to constantly run, even though you are worn out, remember - He’s everlasting.   He can take care of the world while you take a rest.

    Scripture References

    Isaiah 40:31

but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

    Your Own Experiences

Tie this song into one of your vacation memories - specifically the one about how tired you got getting ready to go.   Talk about how we run out of steam, and how we need to relax to build that steam back up.

You could also compare God to the steam in our lives.   He’s always there to provide power, but just like steam needs heat and water, we have to take time to pray and read our Bible.
