Taking It Deeper

Come out of sadness from wherever you've been
Come broken hearted let rescue begin
Come find your mercy
Oh sinner, come kneel

Earth has no sorrow
That Heaven can't heal

So, lay down your burdens
Lay down your shame
All who are broken
Lift up your face
Oh wanderer, come home
You're not too far
So, lay down your hurt
Lay down your heart
Come as you are

There's hope for the hopeless
And all those who've strayed
Come sit at the table
Come taste the grace
There's rest for the weary
Rest that endures

Earth has no sorrow
That Heaven can't cure

Come as you are
Fall in His arms
Come as you are

There's joy for the morning
Oh sinner, be still

Earth has no sorrow
That Heaven can't heal

  • There’s the son who found boot camp to be more than he could bear.
  • Or the daughter who just couldn’t handle the class load and who came home after her first freshman semester.
  • There are times like that when the dreams we had just wouldn’t come true, and it makes us feel like a failure.
  • What do we want most when that happens?  We want to fall into Mom or Dad’s arms and know that we’re loved.  We want them to say “It’s OK.  We’ll work it out.  I’m here for you.”
  • That’s this song.

  • You need to know that God is in the future glory business.
  • Isn’t that what heaven points to?  Something better when this life is done.
  • The problem is, that I need to know that life will be better than it is - RIGHT NOW!
  • It can be.  Within the next few minutes you can pray.  You can talk to God, release your struggles to Him.  Let Him grab hold of your burdens.
  • Listen to this song as you do, and let me welcome you as the newest employee in the future glory business.

  • There’s a word that my mind likes to concentrate on, and I don’t even know it’s doing it.
  • It’s the word “instead.”
  • My mind is always thinking of the things I’d rather have INSTEAD of the things I have right now.
  • There’s a verse in the Bible that uses that word really well.  It’s Isaiah 61:3.
  • It says the Lord will grant “a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; that they may be called oaks of righteousness, the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.”
  • It’s kind of fancy language, but it’s talking about how He will grant some good stuff your way so that He will be glorified.
  • He wants to give you a better “instead” so that ultimately you can point others to the better “instead” that’s found in Him.

    Scripture References

    Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

    James 4:8

Come near to God and he will come near to you.

    Romans 10:13

for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about being a kid and coming when you were called.  Sometimes you were good, and it wasn’t a problem.  Sometimes you were being bad, and you’d hide.  It’s for the times you want to hide that you need to come to God the most.

Do you know someone who has had a heart attack?  Use that as a realization about this song:  When you have a heart attack, you can’t rescue yourself.  Someone else has to rescue you.

This song has a line that says “Come broken hearted, let rescue begin.”

It’s the same for when your emotional heart is broken.  It’s best to let the one who created those emotions come to the rescue.

Talk about a time you sat at a table and had a healing conversation with someone.  Point out that this song invites you to a table to do such a thing.

God doesn’t care where you’ve been He just wants you home.

When I doubt God’s love for me I have to look at it from a parental point of view.
If my kids went missing… I would NEVER NEVER EVER stop looking for them or begging God to bring them home. I would not care in the slightest where they had been or done… just come home. I would want to love them, hold them, protect them, care for them.

If you don’t have kids think about how your parents feel about you.

God is your Father you belong to Him first! Come home!

    Interesting story about hope…
A man approached a little league baseball game one afternoon. He asked a boy in the dugout what the score was.
The boy responded, “Eighteen to nothing–we’re behind.”
“Boy,” said the spectator, “I’ll bet you’re discouraged.”
“Why should I be discouraged?” replied the little boy. “We haven’t even gotten up to bat yet!”

Here’s a song from Crowder that help change your direction. Your current path if reversed will bring Hope and Rest that will endure…

That’s a song from Crowder that encourages you to reverse your current life direction and then discover Hope and Rest that will endure…
