Taking It Deeper

I try to catch my breath
It hasn’t happened yet
I’m wide awake in the middle of the night scared to death
So I prayed God, would You make this stop
Father please hold on to me, You’re all I’ve got
Carry me, carry me, carry me now
From my sinking sand to Your solid ground
The only way I’m ever gonna make it out
Is if You carry me, carry me, carry me now
God carry me, carry me, carry me now
Jesus calm my heart
Come near me please
Lord don’t let these worries get the best of me
Oh I believe, that You’re still here with me
Cause You meant what You said when You said You’d never leave
(Repeat Chorus)
Carry me
God carry me
Carry me
God carry me
I’m at the end of myself
I know I’ve got nothing left
Feels like I’m stuck in the valley of the shadow of death
And I’ve been down here so long
I just can’t find my way out
Oh God I don’t stand a chance
Unless You carry me now
God carry me now
(Repeat Chorus)

  • This is a song that Josh wrote because he was experiencing panic attacks.  These lyrics and these words from Phillippians help to get him through:
  • "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let you requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus"

  • Did you ever wonder why Brides get carried over thresholds?
  • It’s because of traditions regarding evil spirits that date back to the ancient world.   Back then, thresholds to a home were considered a place where spirits might congregate; easily entered through the soles of a bride’s feet.
  • The tradition lingers into the modern world, but this (that) song gives us some great comfort tied into that tradition.
  • Since the Bible says we, the church, are the “bride of Christ,” it’s good to place our security in one who can carry us through the worries that come in the middle of our nights.

  • Why does it tend to rain on the days after we clean our floors?
  • Kids come in from outside and invariably we have to pick them up and carry them to a place where we can take off their shoes.
  • It reminds me of this song.
  • God knows we have a tendency to leave a mess where we walk.
  • So, if we ask, he’ll carry us to a place where our messes can no longer affect us.

  • When your child has a nightmare, what do you do?
  • You hold them, quiet them, tell them it’s going to be alright.
  • You and I, as adults, need someone to hold us through our fears too.
  • That’s what this song is about...

    Scripture References

    Isaiah 40:11

He tends his flock like a shepherd:  He gathers the lambs in his arms  and carries them close to his heart;  He gently leads those that have young.

    Isaiah 41:10

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

    Psalm 68:19

Praise be to the Lord, to God our Savior, who daily bears our burdens. Selah

    Your Own Experiences

What is a burden that you carry daily?   Examples include: Providing for others, raising Godly kids, caregiving.   You’ve probably realized that with these kinds of burdens you can’t do it alone.   If nothing else - saying a prayer for God to help is often the best thing you can do.   Share an instance where you had to do that.

Talk about a time that you got lost driving through a strange neighborhood.   You either kept wandering around, or you asked for directions.   Near the end of this song it says:   “I just can’t find my way out.   Oh God I don’t stand a chance, unless You carry me now.”   Asking for direction is like asking to be carried.   Do you think that’s why guys have such a hard time doing it?

What do you think the word “never” means when He says He will “never leave you or forsake you?”   So why do you think we tend to forget that He is always there ready to carry us?

One Response so far.

Here’s a song for those days when your walk with Christ is more like a Stop, Drop and Roll.
