Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

I’m a brand new man, I’m a conscious man
I’m a man who’s burnin’ for You
The mistakes I’ve made have been chased away to the bottom of the ocean blue
I’m a brand new man in a foreign land
I’m a man who’s feelin’ that fire
And it’s all so clear when I’m standing here at the peak of my desire

(Chorus):
So won’t You move me like You used to
I want the world to know that I burn for You
I feel revived again, I am alive again
(Burning for You) You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up
I feel alive again, I’m energized again (Burning for You) You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up

Woke up in a sweat, those ghosts in my head
Had a grip, but I slipped on by
It’s a whole new day as the darkness fades
And the sun’s climbing in the sky
I concede, my love, that I need your love
I’m before you, a broken man
And it’s only You, no substitutes who can renew the soul again

(Repeat Chorus)
You got me higher than Kilimanjaro
Got me believin’ I can “save the day”
I’m up and running like there ain’t no tomorrow
I’d rather burn for You than fade away
I’d rather burn for You than go my way

I’m a whole new guy with a whole new vibe
Changed inside — more flame in the fire
Can’t stop, won’t stop praying for desire
Like the bunny on the screen feel so energized
Old shell gone without a trace, new face
No more shortness of breath, new pace
Live life now without the taste of fear

TOBY MAC, Double Dutch now let the smoke clear
(4X’s)

I feel revived again, I am alive again
(Burning for You) You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up
I feel alive again, I’m energized again (Burning for You) You got me lifted and lifted you lift me up

TID-bits

This is a song about burdens being lifted in a life, and how excited we get when we’re relieved of it.   Lyrics like “the mistakes I’ve made have been chased away to the bottom of the ocean blue” and “I feel revived again, I am alive again” speak to that.

So any example in life where a burden is lifted can tie into this song.   The easy one would be getting out of debt. Once the years of being in bondage to credit cards goes away, a new person emerges.   One who is energized to not get in that situation again.

It’s the same with a bondage to food, or to unhealthy relationships, or to emotional attachments.   When a person is released from any of them, they have a fire - an excitement for life - that has been fanned into existence.

So you can always go into or out of this song with an offer to pray for your listeners that they will be set free, so that they can truly experience the what Toby Mac sings about here.

-----------------------------------------------

  • Most of the time, things get easier the more we do them.
  • There is one thing that is an exception to that rule,
  • That is “moving.”
  • Each time we move in life it gets more difficult because we have more stuff that we’ve acquired, and thus more stuff we have to move.
  • So, in this (that) song Toby Mac asks God to “move me like you used to”
  • Back when we didn’t have so much stuff cluttering up our lives.
  • It’s because God is big enough to clear out any amount of stuff - giving us the ability to feel joy again.

-----------------------------------------------

  • There are times we get so tired that we just need to take a nap.
  • Our lives get so busy that we just want to check out for a few hours...or a few days.
  • Once we get our rest, we can tackle it all again, we become conscious again - with the clarity needed to face the day.
  • If you’ve experienced that, then you get the idea behind this (that) song.
  • When Toby sings “I’m a brand new man, I’m a conscious man, I’m a man who’s burnin’ for you”   He’s following it up by talking about burdens being lifted.
  • And sometimes all you gotta do to release those burdens is take a rest, so you can be energized to do what He’s called you to do.

    Scripture References

    2 Timothy 1:6-7

For this reason I remind you to fan into flame the gift of God, which is in you through the laying on of my hands.   For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self—discipline.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Jeremiah 20:9

But if I say, "I will not mention his word or speak anymore in his name," his word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.

    -----------------------------------------------

    Psalm 39:3

My heart grew hot within me, and as I meditated, the fire burned; then I spoke with my tongue:

    Your Own Experiences

Remember the Hot and Cold Game?   You search for something and the one who’s hidden it tells you when “you getting warmer or colder” until you find it.   Compare that to this song which talks about a life ignited when it finds God.

    -----------------------------------------------

Talk about sitting in front of a campfire, and seeing the embers glow.   When a breeze comes along they go from an orange to a bright yellow orange.   Mention how breezes always revive us, and how a breeze by God fans our life into something that glows even brighter.

    -----------------------------------------------

Talk about how warmth is often associated with renewal:   A hot bath, a warm massage, warming up your muscles through working out, sitting on a beach under the sunshine.   Then take that idea and turn it around by mentioning that this is a song about renewal that results in warmth.
