Taking It Deeper

In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.


Phillippians 4:12

I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want.


  • Here’s what God’s word has to say when everything is crashing down:
  • John 14:18  “I will not leave you without help as children without parents.  I will come to you.
  • Isaiah 58:9  “Then you will call, and the Lord will answer.  You will cry, and He will say, “Here I am.”
  • Psalm 40:17  “Because I suffer and am in need, let the Lord think of me.  You are my help and the One Who sets me free.  O my God, do not wait.


  • If you feel broken, you can take heart from these words in Isaiah 61:1-3.
  • It's a good reminder of the calling that God has given us in the way we treat one another.
The Spirit of the Lord God is upon me, 
because the Lord has anointed me 
to bring good news to the poor; 
he has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, 
to proclaim liberty to the captives, 
and the opening of the prison to those who are bound; 
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor, 
and the day of vengeance of our God; 
to comfort all who mourn; 
to grant to those who mourn in Zion— 
to give them a beautiful headdress instead of ashes, 
the oil of gladness instead of mourning, 
the garment of praise instead of a faint spirit; 
that they may be called oaks of righteousness, 
the planting of the Lord, that he may be glorified.
