Taking It Deeper

I found myself looking into the mirror
Knew I wasn't who I wanted to be
I was living life the way I wanted
But my eyes reminded me I'm not free
Believed the lie so
Everything that I know
Says I gotta go
Tired of going so low
Never gonna go there again
This is what it is
This is who I am
This is where I finally
Take my stand
I didn't wanna fall
But I don't have to crawl
I've met the one with two scarred hands
giving him the best of
Everything that's left of
The life inside this man
I've been born again
I see you walking like you're living in fear
Having trouble even looking at me
Wishing they would give you more than words
Sick of people telling how it should be
What did ya download
Where'd you get your info
You saw that I’m show
Now you're in the inload
Gonna tell you what I believe
We are the ones He called by name
I'm never gonna look back
Let go let go the guilt the shame
I said I'm never gonna look back
This is who I am

  • It’s cool to see two mirrors facing each other.
  • We may think the reflections go on forever, but they don’t.   Common mirrors only reflect about 70% of light, so the reflections get smaller and darker till we can’t see them anymore.
  • If it’s a scientific fact that mirrors don’t reflect forever, don’t you think that it’s a spiritual fact that you’ll get to the end of what’s troubling you?

  • We tend to use mirrors to check our hair, our makeup, etc.
  • But going along with the scripture that says   “man sees on the outside, but God looks at the heart,” I think the mirror is the tool that God often uses for us to see what we’re really like on the inside.
  • Think about what you see on the inside as you hear the Newsboys...

  • There’s a reason the evening news wants to tell you all the bad stuff.
  • It’s because fear sells.
  • Fear gets attention.
  • Fear about our circumstances occupies our thoughts, too.
  • However, this (that) song says “enough already!   I’m not going to fear anymore!”
  • I’m going to let go of all that and not look back.

  • This song is like a child who stomps her foot and shouts “NO!”
  • That’s usually a behavior we try to correct, but in this case we shouldn’t.
  • Sometimes we should defiantly say “no”
  • Especially when the world wants to tell us we’re no good.

  • Have you ever had a bird get in your house?
  • When a bird drops down your chimney it finds itself trapped in your home - a cage it can’t get out of.
  • It flies from window to window, it perches on pictures, it’s frantic.
  • We tend to feel that way too, when we’re trapped.
  • It takes someone who’s caring enough to gently capture us and lead us to freedom.
  • This is a song about that.

    Scripture References

    2 Timothy 1:7

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline.

    Joshua 1:9

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go."

    Hebrews 13:6

So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?”

    Your Own Experiences

What is a lie that you have believed about yourself for a long time?   What has God said to you about it, either through His word, or through others.   Have you gotten past it the lie yet?   Why or why not?

What’s a weakness in your life that you need to stand up to?   Share your struggle and let this song be your anthem.

What was something you never looked back on?   It talks about that in the bridge of this song.   In the long run is a person ever sorry to give up something harmful?
