  • When pain and suffering come along, some people want to put all their focus on God in a negative way.
  • They get mad that He wont fix it.
  • Have you ever thought that maybe the pain comes along so that you get to know God better?
  • When you focus on God to get you through the pain, and then when He finally does heal the pain.
  • Then that’s the path to joy

  • Names mean things.  They're not just letters strung together.
  • For instance, the name "Mother Teresa" conjures up thoughts, so does the name "Adolf."
  • For some, God's name is good, and for others it is bad.
  • But God's name is not something that you can have subjective thoughts about.
  • God's name is objective.  It IS good.  It IS worthy.
  • Just like a $100 bill has objective worth.  If someone were to say, "Ah it's just a piece of paper.  It's trash. Throw it away."   You'd be like...no!
  • God's name must always be praised,  even if all is falling apart.
  • Because He wants to be merciful to you and He wants you to know that He is in control.

  • However, if you are in agony you probably don’t want to hear that.
  • What you do need to hear, is this song

  • Have you ever found yourself having to say “Thank you” even if you didn’t feel like saying it?
  • Like maybe when you had to call a plumber... on a holiday.
  • You knew you needed it, you were thankful you received it, but you didn’t want to pay the extra for it.

  • Because when you do that, you acknowledge that God is in control.

  • My friend found herself “choosing to say something” the other day.
  • In this case, she was at a fast food restaurant on a Sunday, and the register wasn’t ringing up her sandwich correctly, even though the sign on the wall mentioned their $5 Sunday special.
  • She refused to pay.
  • She believed the store had to honor what they had posted.
  • “Choosing to say something” usually happens when you have to express your beliefs when those beliefs are being challenged.
  • So, the words “My heart will choose to say, Lord Blessed Be Your Name” in this (that) song means the following:
  • “I will continue to believe in you, Lord, even though I’m not 100% happy about it.”

  • I lived through a drought once.
  • What I was surprised to see was that the cracked and caked mud where there was once a pond, didn’t stay that way.
  • Instead weeds grew up in it.   It became quite green and flourishing.

  • If you have a tough life right now, and you don’t praise Him through it.
  • You may find bitterness growing.

  • And in the story, God wrenched Jacob’s hip out of it’s socket.
  • Even through that incredible pain, Jacob held on.
  • His exact words were:   “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
  • You can do that today through your pain.
  • Do NOT let go of God.

    Talk about losing something or someone, and how the words “you give and take away” meant something to you during that time

    Talk about having to do something that you don’t want to, like getting out of bed.   Talk about how there is blessing just by pressing on.   (In this case, there is the blessing of getting paid for a day of work when you get up to do it,   or the blessing of another day of learning if you’re getting up to go to school).
