Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

Wake up and smile cause it's been awhile
It's been like a whole day since I stopped so You could hold me
This child awaits, strong in the faith
Lord you are the refuge that I can't wait to get to
'Cause I can't let a day go
Can't let a day go by
Without thanking you for the joy that you bring to my life

And ooh there's something 'bout the way Your sun shines on my face
It's a love so true, I could never get enough of You
This feeling can't be wrong, I'm about to get my worship on
Take me away, It's a beautiful day

When trouble seems to rain on my dreams
It's not a big, not a big deal, Let it wash all the bugs off my windshield
'Cause You're showing me in You I'm free
And You're still the refuge that I've just got to get to
So I won't let a day go
Won't let a day go by
So put the drop-top down, turn it up, I'm ready to fly

And ooh there's something 'bout the way Your sun shines on my face
It's a love so true, I could never get enough of You
This feeling can't be wrong, I'm about to get my worship on
Take me away, It's a beautiful day

I've got no need to worry, I've got no room for doubt
No matter what's coming at me, You'll always be the beautiful I sing about
There ain't no limitations to Your amazing grace
And there's something 'bout the way Your love shines on my face
Oh no I could never get enough of You
This feeling can't be wrong, I'm about to get my worship on
I'm gonna sing a brand new song, Yeah I'm about to get my worship on
Take me away on this beautiful day

TID-bits

  • Starts and stops, that’s really what this song is about.
  • It’s about starting a brand new day - getting up out of bed - and then immediately stopping.
  • Stopping and waiting.  Stopping and thanking.  Stopping and realizing that God has it under control.
  • Maybe you haven’t done that yet.  How about right now you take a moment to say “whoa” before you go again?  Just long enough for a quick prayer.
  • Then, how about tomorrow you take a little more time with Him?

---------------------------------------------------

  •  I remember this water playground where there was a giant bucket at the top.  A big old pipe would constantly fill it up.
  • Then it got so full it would spill out over the entire play area.
  • That’s a picture of our days with God, and of this (that) song from Jamie Grace.  We get filled up, we pour it out.
  • A pastor friend of mine said if you do it enough, you start to bypass the bucket.
  • You pretty much become the pipe, transferring what God is pouring into you directly to others.

---------------------------------------------------

  • My favorite line in this (that) song is the one that talks about problems being the rain that washes the bugs off my windshield.  I love it because it gives us proper perspective.  It’s a “when life gives you lemons, make lemonade” line.
  • Are you moving so fast in life that stuff like deadlines and to do’s are just crashing into you, like those bugs?
  • I’m giving you (and me) permission to slow down.  It’s OK to take one cue from those bugs:  Be drawn to His light.  Soak it in.  Take it easy.

    Scripture References

    Ruth 2:12

May the Lord repay you for what you have done. May you be richly rewarded by the Lord, the God of Israel, under whose wings you have come to take refuge.”

    ---------------------------------------------------

    Psalm 5:11

But let all who take refuge in you be glad; let them ever sing for joy. Spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may rejoice in you.

    ---------------------------------------------------

    Psalm 118:24

This is the day the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about how we have difficulty waiting.  Especially in a world where communication is instant.  I remember seeing the movie “Lincoln” that starts off with the President sitting and chatting with the troops.  I remember his peaceful demeanor in the face of war.  I remember him sending off communications via morse code.  Sometimes I think God makes us wait for marching orders, if for nothing else, so that He has time to converse with us.

    ---------------------------------------------------

She says “it’s been like a whole day since I stopped to let you hold me.  So, how long has it been since you stopped to let Him hold you?  Encourage yourself and your listeners to hold up.  It’s like a toddler - you have to get them to hold up before they can be held up.

What’s something in your life that is falling apart?  Would it be falling apart if you spent some time with it?
