Taking It Deeper

Lyrics

There's a place where mercy reigns and never dies

There's a place where streams of grace flow deep and wide

Where all the love I've ever found

Comes like a flood

Comes flowing down

At the cross

At the cross

I surrender my life

I'm in awe of You, I'm in awe of You

Where Your love ran red

And my sin washed white

I owe all to You, I owe all to You

Jesus

There's a place where sin and shame are powerless

Where my heart has peace with God

And forgiveness

Where all the love I've ever found

Comes like a flood

Comes flowing down

At the cross

At the cross

I surrender my life

I'm in awe of You, I'm in awe of You

Where Your love ran red

And my sin washed white

I owe all to You, I owe all to You

Here my hope is found

Here on holy ground

Here I bow down

Here I bow down

Here arms open wide

Here You saved my life

Here I bow down

Here I bow

At the cross

At the cross

I surrender my life

I'm in awe of You, I'm in awe of You

Where Your love ran red

And my sin washed white

I owe all to You, I owe all to You

I owe all to You, I owe all to You

Jesus

TID-bits

Do you know what theology is?  Well, theos is the greek word for God, and -ology  is from the greek word logos, which means "Word."  It's also where we get the word logic.  So it's the Word or Logic of God.  Biology is the Word or Logic of life.  Anthropology is the Word or Logos of man.  It's studying all the aspects of a certain science, or in this case, studying everything about God.  That's theology.

This song is a theological song, because in it's 200 or so words you find pretty much all the aspects of God and His dealings with us.  There's mercy, grace, awe, sacrifice, the taking away of our sins, deliverance, peace, forgiveness, hope, holiness, surrender, and above it all, there is the love that Jesus has for us because of what He did on the cross.

I'm in awe of this song because it contains all that I'm in awe of about God!

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.  And he is the head of the body, the church. He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent. For in him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether on earth or in heaven, making peace by the blood of his cross.

Hebrews 12:1–2 (ESV)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us,  looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
