Taking It Deeper

I was standing in the pouring rain one dark November night
Fighting off the bitter cold when she caught my eye
Her face was taught and her eyes were filled, and to my surprise
She pulled out a photograph and my heart just stopped inside
She said, “He would’ve been three today
I miss his smile, I miss his face”
What was I supposed to say, but
I believe always, always
Our Savior never fails
Even when all hope is gone
God knows our pain and his promise remains
He will be with you always
He was living in a broken world, dreaming of a home
His heart was barely keeping pace when I found him all alone
Remembering the way he felt when his daddy said goodbye
Fighting just to keep the tears and the anger locked inside
He’s barely holding onto faith
But deliverance is on its way, cause
I believe always, always
Our Savior never fails
Even when all hope is gone
God knows our pain and his promise remains
He will be with you always
Friend, I don’t know where you are and I don’t know where you’ve been
Maybe you’re fighting for your life or just about to throw the towel in
But if you’re crying out for mercy, if there’s no hope left at all
If you’ve given everything you’ve got and you’re still about to fall
Well hold on, hold on, hold on, cause
I believe always, always
Our savior never fails
Even when all faith is gone
God knows our pain and his promise remains
Always, always, He will be with you always

  • I found out that the earth doesn't actually orbit the sun.
  • Since all the objects in the solar system effect all the others with their gravity, the actual center of the universe shifts around the sun.  Sometimes it's in the sun, some years it's not.
  • It's that center - the barycenter - that everything orbits around.
  • And the earth doesn't even orbit that center.  It orbits where that center was 8 MINUTES AGO!  That's because the effect of gravity lags behind at the same rate of the speed of light.
  • No wonder I feel like I'm always trying to catch up, and like life moves at a dizzying pace.  It's the natural order of things.
  • That's why I think it's important to remain close to a God who is always right where I need Him.

  • We have been taught that failure is not an option.
  • However, that’s not true.   Failure is always an option.   Actually, failure is probably a certainty.
  • Failure is the way we learn, it is the way we grow.
  • What is not an option is quitting.   You must always keep going.   You must always get back up and start again.
  • When this (that) song says “Our Savior never fails”   it is saying that He will never quit on you.
  • So please don’t quit on Him.   Let Him help you through it.
  • We are more than happy to pray with you, if you need some help.

  • There are things we hang on to, and then there are things we HAVE to hang on.
  • The one thing we have to grit our teeth, and tense our muscles and hang on to with every fiber of our being is the faith that God will come through.
  • Hanging on to that can be challenging, but after you get past the struggle you will find one thing:
  • You’ll find that HE was holding on to you the whole time.

  • Two words that Charlie Brown used a lot were “Good Grief!”
  • It’s amazing that if you look at the life of the Peanuts characters you’ll see a lot of grief:   Charlie Brown never gets the little red-haired girl, he never gets to kick the football, the tree always eats his kite, his baseball team never wins.   Linus has constant need of a security blanket. Lucy’s love for Schroeder is never returned, Snoopy is always escaping into dreams of being a fighter ace, or an astronaut, or being Joe Cool, and Pig Pen can’t get clean no matter what.
  • And yet, Charles Schulz’s characters continue to give us hope, and they do it through the midst of their failures.
  • And that’s my point:   God is here to bring you hope, even if you feel like you’re life is right now a “Charlie Brown world of continuous failure.”
  • We are here to pray for you, to lift you up, and to let you know that there is ultimate “good” in the midst of your “grief.”

    Your Own Experiences

Talk about pain and promise.   How have you experienced both in the same month?

How often has He been there for you?   Write down a list of those times.   Then share that He has always been there for you.

Talk about a time that you heard of a situation that you “heart just stopped inside”   - a time of pain that made you drop to your knees in prayer.   Talk about how light ultimately returned to that situation.
