Taking It Deeper

I remember the moment
I remember the pain
I was only a girl
But I grew up that day
Tears were falling
I know You saw me
Hiding there in my bedroom
So alone
I was doing my best
Trying to be strong
No one to turn to
That's when I met You
All this time
From the first tear cry
To today's sunrise
And every single moment between
You were there
You were always there
It was You and I
You've been walking with me all this time
Ever since that day
it's been clear to me
That no matter what comes
You will never leave
I know You're for me
And You're restoring
Every heartache and failure
Every broken dream
You're the God who sees
The God who rescued me
This is my story
This is my story
I hear these people asking me
How do I know what I believe?
Well I'm not the same me
And I saw the proof I need
I felt Love I felt Your grace
You stole my heart that day

  • If you have kids, you know about “being behind”
  • When they’re learning to walk, you’re behind them - holding them up.
  • When they go to school, you’re behind them in prayer - praying for their days to go well.
  • When they’re sick, you’re behind the scenes, fixing soup, calling the doctor, picking up prescriptions.
  • Even when they’re grown up, you’re always behind them, ready to build them up when the world tears them down.
  • Jesus is the same way with you.   He’s always there, always walking with you, always behind you wanting to serve.
  • Even if you don’t want Him to.
  • Talk about being there for your kids, and how you’re always behind them, how you always “have their back.”
  • Compare that to Jesus always being there for you.
  • Finish with “and He’s especially there when you have no one else to turn to.”

  • Sometimes I think God made us with tear ducts so that we’d have a obvious way to know when we need Him.
  • And if you’re driving in the car and feeling like the tears are about to flow, I hope you can realize that He is there for you
  • And so are we.

  • You’ve probably heard us say that God will never leave you or forsake you.
  • But the thing is, not only will He stay by your side, but He will also restore you from the pain you’re feeling.
  • 1 Peter 5:10 says:   And the God of all grace, who called you   to his eternal glory   in Christ, after you have suffered a little while,   will himself restore you and make you strong,   firm and steadfast.

    Scripture References

    Deuteronomy 31:6

Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the LORD your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.”

    Psalms 73:23-24

Yet I am always with you; you hold me by my right hand.   You guide me with your counsel, and afterward you will take me into glory.

    Psalms 139:7-12

Where can I go from your Spirit?   Where can I flee   from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens,   you are there;   if I make my bed   in the depths,   you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,   if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,   your right hand   will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me   and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark   to you;   the night will shine like the day,   for darkness is as light to you.

    Your Own Experiences

Mention a time that you realized that God worked behind the scenes to get you where you are today.   Maybe someone mentioned you to your boss, and that’s what got you your job?

Talk about a time of heartache and how God soothed you in your pain.

Have you ever collapsed on your bed, crying?   Have you ever wiped tears from your eyes while you were driving?   Remind the listener that this is the song they need to hear in those situations.
