Taking It Deeper

  • There are times in life that we stumble and it’s just a nuisance, like tripping over a rock, or blowing your diet.
  • There are other times we really stumble, like when we damage a relationship, or make a costly mistake.
  • This (That) song reminds us that it happens to all of us, and what we need to do is accept it, ask for forgiveness and move on.
  • In other words we say “Amen” to it.
  • Because “Amen” actually means “So be it.”  It is acknowledging that God is big enough to take care of it.


  • It’s the last word in the Bible.  Revelation 22:21 “The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people.  Amen.”
  • At the end of that word there is a period.  The New Testament is done.  It is finished - and that last sentence is about God’s grace given to us.
  • But the story isn’t finished.
  • God’s grace keeps going - it’s given to us each and every day.
  • Can you say Amen to that?


  • Amen.  It’s a word that finishes prayer, but Christians also use it as a word of agreement.  Preachers will often ask:  “Can I get an Amen?”
  • What can you say Amen to today?
  • How about God’s grace and mercy - freely given when we mess up?
  • How about His forgiveness - freely given when we need to feel loved?
  • Can you agree to these things - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control?
  • If you need any of those things, then say Amen to them.  Agree with Christ that He has them for you.  Receive them, and trust Him to grow them in you.


  • When we’re walking in the wind we have to lean into it.
  • And this song talks about some of the winds that blow against us:  Loneliness.  Fear. Weakness.  Brokenness. 
  • But it also reminds us of what we have that helps us lean into these winds of trouble:  His mercy, His forgiveness, His love, and how we’re all in this together.
  • Think about that when you hear the verse that says:  It's all you got to lean on but thank God it's all you need.

    Your Own Experiences

    Talk about a time that you asked someone to agree with you in prayer, and how having them there for you helped you.


    Point out how this song is about coming together, and realizing that God meets needs when we do.  In that way, it is an excellent song to go along with a shared food drive, clothing drive, backpack or diaper drive that your station may be doing.


    Talk about a time you stayed on a beach, and you saw how the tides go in and out.  This song is about those kind of changes.  It’s about how God’s love never ends - and like the tides, it will always return back to you.
